Francis Marion and the Legend of the Swamp Fox

This book has been on my wish list forever. I have driven through Francis Marion forest several times, plus I have two other books by the author that I love. The other day we watched a short film at a park center that mentioned Francis Marion, so I decided: forget it! I am buying this book- new (gasp    ) if I have to.

I'm so glad I did! The story is fascinating, and the illustrations are wonderful- lots of cool swamp scenes. It is a great addition to our American History studies.

Walt Disney actually made a series of Swamp Fox movies about Francis Marion. My family has enjoyed watching all eight of them.

We did not do this, but you can see them in parts on Youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SBPnw5riLM. My five year old goes around singing the Swamp Fox song.

I am curious about the book.

I find the story fascinating. He was never caught. I have walked through those buggy, hot, humid, mosquito and alligator-infested swamps many times.... I could not imagine living in them- for years at a time!

Wow- those men were dedicated. I am amazed how brave they were.

Rats, my library doesn't have it. It looks REALLY good. I might have to break down and buy one.

The Swamp Fox is one of my family's favorite American heroes. The Disney version was my brother's favorite, and we sang the song so often.

Landmark has a great biography on him, too.
