I just got a HB copy of Merry as a Crickett from PBS. It was on my wish list for quite a long time.
I love it when I get a message from PBS

I love it too, Melinda. I've gotten Catholic HS Companion, Catholic HS Treasury, several adoption books, the out of print Melissa Wiley books and several Dr. Sears books off of PBS that otherwise would have cost much more!

I am on Bookmooch, a similar site. I've gotten over 200 books from there in the last 3 months for DD for school just for swapping books I get at thrift shops for next to nothing.

I have signed up for PBS, but I'm so slow to get to the Post Office, that I haven't jumped in. How do you manage?

Jenn-
You can mail books under 13 oz right from home! I do it all the time... I just weigh them to be sure they are not over the limit after I package them up.
If they are over 13 oz,... well, that is what dh is for I stamp them at home and he drops them off at the PO.
I am also on Bookmooch, but I like PBS better... more organized with strict time limits so you get your books without much delay. But I use both and have gotten really nice books from both places.

I have a bit more time now, so I am coming back to add that what I like about PBS is that you can maintain a huge wish list (up to 200 requests), and it has all kinds of neat features to organize your list, like sorting by your position in line and estimating how long you might wait.
Also, PBS now has a marketplace which sells overstock new books. You can use your book credits to help buy these for next to nothing. The best part is that you will be automatically notified if one of your wish list items becomes available in the marketplace.
Some of my recent arrivals from PBS include A Haystack Full of Needles and a nice HB copy of The Betsy-Tacy Treasury. In the past I have gotten various Montessori books. I got The LIttle Caterpillar That Finds Jesus through PBS as well. Oh, and Vision books on the saints!
Can you tell it's one of my favorite places? I'm first in line for Father Philip Tells a Ghost Story, Brigid's Cloak and A Gift of Gracias.
I know I sound like a big commercial for PBS... but the more people using it the more resources become available. Most of the books I mail out cost $2.38 or less in postage.

You've gotten some great ones. PBS really helps me stretch my HS budget.

Well, in today's mail were 6 of the Let's-Read-And-Find Out science books along with a hardcover copy of Inos Biffi's Story of the Eucharist. I'm waiting on a copy of First Farm in the Valley {the Catholic Little House}.
I've gotten several of the faith and life books, MCP Math titles, Magic School Bus, and lots of children's classic picture books. I've also managed to get a couple of the out of print books in the Laura Ingalls Wilder line.
I'm Sandygirl for those on bookmooch.

I've mailed out a lot of children's books mostly {helps keep shipping costs down due to less weight}. Dr. Seuss, Curious George, Magic School Bus, and pretty much anything on CHC's recommended reading lists for pre-K thru 2nd will go quickly. Most catholic home schooling books for both children and adults are wishlisted by at least a few people. My rule of thumb that seems to work if that if it is something I'd read to my daughter and we already have a copy of, I get it to swap. Seems to be working for now, but we are fairly picky on reading material.
I also find anything by Beverly Lewis to go fast.

Ditto about Children's books... I find that I send a lot to teachers who use them to build a class library. Also... would you believe books about potty training go fast? I always buy these when I see them at thrift stores just so I can swap them for other books.
That is the beauty of this system...
I can swap "Bye Bye Diapers" for "Favorite Poems Old and New".
Crazy...
