I found this little chart in a magazine that said "Choosing Books...age by age". I wanted to laminate it and attach it to a basket of books I bought from a neighbor's garage sale to give to my nephew that just had a baby. I gave them the board book "Goodnight Moon" as one of their baby gifts and they seemed excited about the book and said "Ohh...this is the only book we have." I thought how sad was that! I don't think she's even graduated high school yet and he just did last Summer so I know they're not going out to buy a bunch of books for their little guy and was hoping this would be helpful for them. Sorry for all the history there but just wanted to clarify where I'm coming from in regards to what I'm looking for.

Anyway, this little chart looks like this:

age range what to look for titles reading tip
birth to 1 yr
1 to 2 yrs
2 to 3 yrs
3 to 4 yrs
5 to 6 yrs

Well, I totally messed the whole thing up when trying to laminate it and now it looks terrible. I've searched and searched on the internet and haven't found another easy to read "chart". I suppose I could re-type the whole thing but it's just not going to look the same. Soo, I thought someone here might have something in their little bag of tricks to point me right to what I need.

What a sweet idea!
My brother was dating a girl with two daughters, and my 9yo said they had no books in the house,,,I was just flabbergasted!

I don't know if you feel like springing for another book, but The Read Aloud Handbook has some great lists starting with Infant/Toddler books on up. I use it for ideas all the time. You might also check out their closest library and maybe put some information on story hours and that kind of thing in there, and our libraries even have some kind of special program for new parents...I'm not even sure what it is, I just heard a librarian telling someone something about it, anyone ever hear of this?
