This is not a picture book, it is a video, but it is well worth mentioning here. It's about a 1/2 hour long video in which Tomie De Paola takes you on a tour of his house and studio. He tells stories about himself and shows you how he creates Strega Nona. We watched it yesterday and really enjoyed it. All the kids hopped up afterward and ran straight for the art supplies. It was very inspiring.

We are currently reading Artist to Artist and plan to use this as the spine to our art study for a while. You can probably guess that we are focusing in Tomie De Paola right now.

My plan is to decide together which artist to study, then collect his/her works and anything biographical about them and spend a few days or weeks on that artist. My kids think it is really fun to see how these artists come up with ideas and then implement them.

That's exactly what we're doing at Author Fiesta. We're on our third author/artist.

Like you said, it's very inspiring and the children get totally into it.

We got the video from the library and yes, it that is the correct title. I just googled it and couldn't find it online to buy anywhere. I'd say your best bet is inter-library loan. It is a really great video and I think we'll watch again this afternoon while we're ducking the heat here in Michigan.
