Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Loud Emily by Alexis O'Neill and Nancy Carpenter

A wonderful story about a very loud little girl whose parents don't quite know what to do with her. She ventures into the market/pier on day and ends up getting on a ship who needs her loud voice VERY BADLY! Emily saves the day calling orders throughout a storm and saving other ships as well as she calls all the whales (during the 1850's when whaling off the New England coast was at its peak) to help her.

DC will LAUGH as you read her yelling, and you can have fun with it as you bellow out the sailors' terms and phrases, perhaps even with accents . The endpapers have "scrimshaw"....sailors' sketches/carvings on whalebone. There is a page at the beginning with all the sailors' phrases and what they mean.

The illustrations are beautiful!

And, I love any book that in the first 3 pages of text uses these words: astonished, rattled, starled, shimmered, shattered, threatened, hissed, boisterous, vowed, echoed, tweaked, snapped, boomed, and fastened!!!!!!

Oh my word do we need this book!

Our personal version would be called "Loud Lauren"

I love any book that helps me see my DDs' qualities in a better light.
