Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Charlotte Mason would definitely consider this twaddle, but the girls in our house consider it "Fabulous!"

If you have girls and you haven't read Fancy Nancy, you should. Nancy really does teach a valuable lesson that we should embrace life and be fancy. I think we could all use a little more fancy in our lives!

Blessings,
Betsie

My girls and I love, love, love Nancy.

My 10 year old is correcting me. She said she loves, loves, loves Nancy Drew

But my 6 yr old and I really love Fancy Nancy. She wants the newer books and I want to get them for her.

Fancy Nancy reminds me of Eloise.

I'm a fan of Fancy Nancy! I won't speak for our Miss Mason but I would have a hard time calling this book twaddle:). The illustrations capture the *fancy girly pink thing* better than any book I've seen. Now, there may be a temptation to dismiss the *fancy girly pink thing* in our culture but when you see a little girl's eyes light up reading this book...precious. And the *plain mom* contrast speaks to me .

I didn't know there were other books...I'll check our library, thanks!

Love,

It's a favorite here! It does look twaddly at first glance, but no -- we love it (well, at least me and my little ballerina whom i should be calling Fancy Yena).

We just bought the latest one, the title escapes me but it's the one about the butterfly. I also love the contrast with the plain mom (that's me too!). My middle daughter is definitely a fancy girl and this really speaks to her.

My daughter was just looking at the new one yest. (can't remember the name either ) It was 20% off at Barnes & Noble. I also saw early readers, but didn't read them. I'm hoping I like all of them like the first!

I just read Fancy Nancy: /Bonjour, Butterfly to a bunch of my littles and it was wonderful! It is the first Fanacy Nancy I have read, although my dd-6 has had others read to her by her older sisters.

It was a very sweet story with Nancy being upset that she would miss her best friends birthday because of her grandparents 50th wedding anniversary-but she ends up happy to spend the time with her "extraordinary" family on their special day.

We also could use this book for a very good vocabulary study. We found new words to talk about on almost every page.

Cay -- Your post reminds me of our house, where dd 6 loves loves loves Fancy Nancy and dd 8 is enamored with Nancy Drew. I am always encouraging them to think of literary characters when thinking up Halloween costumes, so we hit upon "Fancy Nancy Drew" .... sweater, plaid skit, magnifying glass with a feather boa and sunglasses!
