Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This is a story from Thailand retold by Margaret MacDonald about a girl who has too many possessions and the lesson she learns.

What a great book! Beautiful pictures and a great lesson. It showed me again in a new light how ridiculous it is to have too much stuff.

Thailand, greed, pride, clothing, sharing, dancing, family

We loved this book when we read it last summer. My 4 year old has a tendency to change into at least 4 different outfits per day (yes, she has been spoiled with way too many hand-me-downs) she wanted to read that book over and over. I overheard a conversation between her and her older sister about not wanting to be the "girl who wore too much." Hopefully that story will lurk about in their minds when they become teenagers and want even more.
