Keywords: George Washington revolutionary war colonial time teeth dentists president's day

We have begun a study of George Washington and the Revolutionary War and I came across this book at the library. It is written in rhyme and is simply wonderful. It follows Washington throughout his life in respect to his dental woes. We read it two times in a row at our first sitting with it and then my dd6 continued on her own, memorizing some of the sections.

How coinci"dental" - we just checked this out earlier today at the library. Haven't read it yet but it does look good. This summer when we went to Mount Vernon we saw his dentures so the kids will really be interested in this. We also are doing GW this month.
And here is a website with a short lesson on George Washington's teeth.

This book is hysterical!!! We read it twice this morning. The kids couldn't get enough of it. I'm so glad I checked it out. It's going in my wish list.

We just read this last week! My 10yo was rolling his eyes at me for reading this out loud but by the end he was intrigued with the timeline of Wshington's dental history at the end. Fun book.

So, there IS one bad thing about this book......
Whenever my kids see or read something else about George Washington, they always want to know HOW MANY TEETH HE HAD THEN.
"Do you think he has lost all his teeth by then?"
"How many teeth does he have in THAT picture?"
"When he did that, did he have dentures then?"
One of THE MOST admired figures in American History, and all my kids can think about are HIS TEETH!

The number one reason we went into the museum at Mount Vernon was to see his dentures!
None of my family appreciated it quite as much as my kids and I.

Leah, I can COMPLETELY picture that in my mind!!!
Imagine.....all that interest and obsession and curiosity about a famous man's TEETH, ignited from a simple picture book!
