Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

by Antonio Madrigal, illustrated by Tomie DePaola

Have any of you seen this book? I was researching for something else and came across this title. It's similar to the story of O'Henry's Gift of the Magi.

It looks very sweet . . .

Yes, we have read it. It is a good book - I always recommend it for Mexico/Central America living books. Very good for leassons of generosity and self-sacrifice and also the historical background of this area of Mexico.

Love it. One of those "character choosing good in face of difficulties" books that kids need for good formation, I think. It makes them think.

It is hard for my girls to hear----they "wince" every time because they beg me not to cut their hair (one daughter is having a particularly challenging time keeping snarl-free and is getting threats!).
