Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi! I'm working on a Connections~ASIA unit for Homeschool Share. I'm wondering if you ladies can help me put together a library list.

The individual units in the Connections group are
Angel Child, Dragon Child (Vietnam)
The Firekeeper's Son (Korea)
Little Oh (Japan)
Round is a Mooncake (China)
The Story of Little Babaji (India)

I have added FIAR titles to the library list, but I don't really know of what else to add. Thanks :) Ami

Ten Mice for Tet is another good Vietnam book. I was hopeful about submitting a unit, but it floundered.

We have a book called Aki and the Fox which is really cute. It is set in Japan.
We also like the Five Chinese Brothers.

That's okay!

Unfortunately, life gets in the way of unit study writing. We had about 70 different units on our list (what we were told we'd be getting), and we got 47 (which is still INCREDIBLE).   So, know that it happens to everyone...and don't give up! We accept units year-round.

Try these:

The Empress and the Silk Worm (China)
Cricket Boy (China)
The Girl Who Loved Caterpillars (Japan)
A Cloak for the Moon (maybe--starts in Israel, presumably Jewish main character must go to China)

Our neighbor, (age 6) was adopted from China, and we have used the Picture Book section of China Sprout for book ideas.

How about Hans Christian Andersen's Nightengale? There are unit study ideas at my blog if you need them.

How about books by DEMI like "The Empty Pot" and "The Greatest Treasure"? "Lon Po Po" by Ed Young is a Caldecott winning Chinese version of Little Red Riding Hood, if fairy tales are ok for the list.

We have out from the library now Allan Say's Grandfather's Journey (half in Japan, half in China) and a really beautiful rendition of Stone Soup set in China by Jon Muth. My son is especially loving that one.
