Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm trying to collect books for each of the four seasons so we can have a seasonal book basket out at any given time. I found tons of books for winter and spring but finding books for the summer hasn't been quite so easy.

Do you have any suggestions for summertime picture books?

Thank you so much!

Jordan

These are some of our favorites about Nature
and some about baseball
and patriotic books for the Fourth of July

Thanks, Suzanne. I really like your suggestions. Having them organized that way on Amazon is convenient.

I also looked at your blog. What a lovely family you have!

We love Jim Arnosky -- my youngest loves Beachcombing: Exploring the Seashore.

Other summer books:

Anything about butterflies

Houses from the Sea by Alice Goudey

Dear Mr. Blueberry

summer poems from Favorite Poems Old and New

more (without links ... running out of time here ...)

Blueberries for Sal
Make Way for Ducklings
The Very Hungry Caterpillar

I know there are tons more ... please chime in, ladies!

Two we have really enjoyed lately are:

The Pink House

It's about an extended family that gathers at a beach house every summer

and Alaska's Twelve Days of Summer

Night of the Moonjellies
Storm in the Night
The Story of Ferdinand
The Story of Ping
The Glorious Flight
When I was Young in the Mountains

We love Barbara Cooney's Miss Rumphius and think of it as a summer book, although it spans several seasons.

Have you checked MacBeth's Opinion? She has a nice summer page and a camping page (great for summer) too.

Weslandia is one of my absolute favorite Summer books. If you have old copies of Cricket Magazine (Oct. 96) you could do a comparison of the story as first published in the magazine and then in book form with a different illustrator.

And then...stand back! Your summer will never be the same!

The Sandcastle is a MUST and is on Cay's "Children's Hour" booklist for June. Of course, in the Pacific Northwest, we never get around to building sandcastles until August and Sept . We were just at the beach today, building, and the kids remembered this one and asked for it!

and....
Lemonade for Sale
