A year of two ago we got my now-8yos the DK Classics Robin Hood compiled by Neil Philip. It's great! The story is good and it has all kinds of rabbit trail info in case you want to investigate further....it's very pictorial so in case he's not reading really well yet, he'll have fun analyzing the pictures and figuring out what it all means (that's what Thomas loves to do).... This is one of those books (and the other DK did about King Arthur) that Thomas constantly returns to and has us and (more and more himself ) read!

Thanks for mentioning this, Mary.
My library doesn't have it so I'll have to keep it in mind. My 9 yr old is reading Robin Hood now because one of the American Girl's (I think Kit) read it in the AG book. She just asked me last week if Robin Hood was 4Real. I was grasping at straws as to what I've heard about Robin Hood. This book looks excellent.

Cay, this is great becuase it goes into all the historical details, tries to separate fact from fiction and really gives lots of info -- you could do a whole unit on the era using this book as the spine....

One of my all time favorite Robin Hood resources is
Song of Robin Hood by Anne Malcolmson. It contains the actual words and music to ballads written about Robin Hood during the Middle Ages. Virginia Burton (Mike Mulligan) designed the books and did the illustrations. (Took her three years!) It is fascinating!!!
If you can't pick out the tunes on the piano, you can read the poetry and study the pictures - there is a LOT of detail, lots to talk about.
Caldecott Honor Book 1948.
I love it!

Thank you, dear book partner.
My dd will be able to pick out the tunes. I've put this one on my wish list as well. I can't spent any more money on books for a while so I hope she's still "into" Robin Hood by the time we get them or the library can get them for us.
My dd thanks you for a timely thread, Molly.

Margot --
thanks -- my library has it so the kiddos and I can check it out. I'm really interested to see it as I LOVE Virginia Lee Burton's illustrations!
THANKS!
