I found this while browsing at Sophia Institute Press. Is this the same Andrew Lang of the Fairy Tale books? Any thoughts on this book? I'm looking at it as a read aloud to the 4-7 age range.
Thanks!
Jennifer

Jennifer,
I was wondering about this book too! It looks like a great resource for my boys. My soon-to-be-7yo in particular is a huge St. George fan and we've been reading the Hodges paperback till its nearly falling apart!
I'm not sure if it is the same Andrew Lang - I just assumed it was. But I can't find it listed on Amazon to check.
Hope someone can give us a good review!

This is on my shopping list, but as far as I know, these stories are not included in the fiary tale books. I do not have all the fairy tale books (I have about half of them ), though, so I am not totally sure. Anyone?

I just received my copy of The Book of Saints and Heroes yesterday. It was originally published in 1912; this edition "contains minor editorial revisions and an abridged preface." As Andi shows, the text is available online as part of the Baldwin Project at www.mainlesson.com
The feel is very much like the Lang fairy tale series, with good dialogue, and illustrations in the same style. My younger kids are definitely not ready for this length story yet, but my 7 year-old is. Although the Lang fairy tales are not his favorite, he loves the Saints and Bible history, so I'm sure he will ask for these over and over. I've only briefly read some of the Saints stories, but can already tell we will use this book for years to come. This is good purchase which will go in the "chapel" for post-morning-prayer read-alouds.
Hope this can help with your purchase decisions. BTW, allcatholicbooks.com has Sophia books (and others) at a good discount.

I'm interested too. This is all it says at Sophia...nothing about the Fairy Tales series:
Andrew Lang was a journalist, poet, editor, literary critic, and translator, and historian. Born in Scotland in 1844, he studied at St. Andrews University and at Balliol College, Oxford. Lang spent much of his life in London, writing for the Morning Post and for the Daily News, and working as the literary editor of Longman’s Magazine.
Lang wrote novels and works of poetry, many books on religion and culture, and even translated the Iliad and the Odyssey. By the time of his death in 1912, Andrew Lang was widely known as a versatile, prodigious scholar. But today, Lang is remembered not so much for his scholarship as for the many fine collections of legends and stories he compiled with the assistance of Lenora, his wife. The Book of Saints and Heroes is one of the best of them.
