Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Wanting to purchase a St Nicholas present for my ds16, I prefer our St Nick books to either be of a spiritual nature or have Catholic tones, overtly or subtly. ie say if he was younger Outlaws of Ravenhurst is more obvious whereas the Mitchell series is more subtle.

So I've been combing here for ideas and looking and looking. Still haven't found the one! In fact we seem to talk more girl books for the older ones, or maybe it is just seeming like that at the moment.

He wants a book that has more a modern setting, not middle ages etc and the character is mysterious, revealed/developed along the way. Ds16 has quite a love for his faith and I'm sure he would be quite happy if the Catholicity is obvious, subtle is fine too.

So can anyone help me or are you as lost as I am?

You might want to look at some of Michael D. O'Brien's books. They are very well-written and powerful (and they hit very close to home...). For a 16 year old, most of his books would probably be okay (sorry I can't recall details, but I read everything this author wrote in a huge burst of enthusiasm a couple of years ago, and several of the novels are related, so I can't remember which ones would be best for a teen!).

Definitely worth looking into - and maybe someone with a better memory will chime in here, too.
