Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My son is 9 years old and saw this at Wal Mart and is begging me to get it... he loves mysteries and is reading the Box Car children. I don't really have time with the toddler and baby to research or read about them. Does anyone know anything about these books?

I have read the first several books of the original series.

Basically, the idea is that two children and their au pair discover that the children are part of an enormous, brilliant extended family divided into clans. The clans are in competition for power to rule the world, but they have to collect and solve the 39 clues to get there.

So, there's competition, some sabotage/backstabbing from some of the other family members, some danger, a lot of far-fetched adventuring, and a bit of mystery. (The fictional Cahill family turns out to have been related to geniuses from past eras, so there's some history tossed in...)

I think my dd was 10 or 11 when she read the series. I didn't have a big problem with it at the time. It's been a while, though, so perhaps other parents can chime in with more details.

My oldest read the first few but they started to scare her. I think she got through maybe book 6 and then it was too intense for her. She was 10 or 11 at the time. She is a sensitive kid though so other children might not have the same reaction.

We read them all as read alouds. We enjoyed them. They are not great literature by any means, in fact kinda gimicky, but there is nothing objectionable in them. After we read them as a family a couple of my kids went back and re-read them on their own. (I confess I enjoyed them, too).
