Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Could someone guide me on this series? I know of this site Little House Books. I'm trying to figure out two things: 1) age appropriate or level reading? Read-aloud age 2) recommendations on which ones first? Chronological?

I was thinking of purchasing for my nieces, who do read alouds and I think are already familiar with Laura Ingalls Wilder books. Their ages range from 9 to 6 who would be listening.

Thanks for any help...

Dear Jenn,

Your nieces are the perfect age for Lissa's books. They make great read alouds for ages four and up and good "read alones" from about age seven (younger if you have a strong five or six year old reader). My twelve year old daughter still adores these books, so I think the range of interest is quite wide. It is rare for something to completely captivate all my girls from the six to twelve year old at the same time, not to mention my four year old son, but Lissa manages!

I would recommend reading them in chronological order beginning with the first book in the Martha series (Little House in the Highlands). My girls read the Martha and Charlotte series as the books came out, so you might also want to start them on the first book in the Charlotte series (Little House by the Boston Bay) as well. You cannot miss with this gift--your nieces will love the two series. You could not find more beautifully written, meticulously researched, and wholesome books than Lissa's.

Thanks, Alice! I'm off to purchase. This was extremely helpful. I'm looking forward to reading them myself soon.

We're going to use the Prairie Primer next year, and I want Sarah to read these books as well. She'll be 11, and I think she can read these for her *reading*, and as part of history, etc. In other words, they'll fit in beautifully! Thank goodness she's my voracious reader!
