Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus

Has anyone read this? I picked it up super cheap at a book sale (five cents)
and I see on Amazon that it is a Yesterday's Classics and gets rave reviews.

However, it is a made up tale about Santa Claus.... sounds like it's entertaining, and even very good, but it doesn't really mesh with Nicholas as a saint. HOwever, it looks like a well written story and one that my dc would enjoy. Hmm... they love the Father Christmas Letters by Tolkien... would this be any different: a fun tale, not historically correct but still a good story?

Just wondered if anyone has read it.... looks like it has been around since at least the 1930's

I owned it as a young child and liked the story very much, but it took a long, long while for me to connect the story to "Santa Claus" or to the real story of St. Nicholas. I read at a very young age, so this probably played into it!

I got it on my Kindle when I bought the Yesterday's Classics collection several months ago.

I started reading it myself and I didn't get it at all. I didn't even finish the book. That suprised me because I saw how many positive reviews it had on Amazon.

Not my style I guess...

It's very different.. has more of the supernatural/fantasy mixed in.. for instance Santa is given the gift of immortality from other immortals.. it's been a while since I read it but you'll want to read it before deciding to use it with your children. It's a fun story but it may confuse some children.

Thanks for all the reviews. It sounds like I need to shelf this one for now and get back to it when I have time to preread it. I'm not sure what my crew would think.
