Thoughts? Sounds like a great series! My boys are 10, 8, 6 and love Little House so much that we've read the series twice and listened to it on tape twice. Mom is ready to branch out!

LOVE them! Just like Little House, they start to get "older" towards the end, and we decided to hold off (though, my boys are even smaller than yours). I didn't read my boys the last two Little House books either, fwiw.

Overall, we just loved them. My husband actually read them to the boys and I think enjoyed them as much or more than the little guys. He doesn't usually get into our read-alouds, but these were an exception!

We also have The Story of Seabiscuit, also by Ralph Moody, on cd read by Jim Weiss, and Dad and boys really enjoy it as well. Fascinating!

If your boys love Little House, I don't think you could go wrong. The end of the first book is a bit more dramatic than anything that happens in Little House, but its based on his real life, so...

They are consistently recommended in any thread here related to "series for boys, " "family read alouds," etc. If you search Little Britches or Ralph Moody as a "Phrase" you'll get lots of hits for recommendations in old threads.

We really enjoyed them. The story is set locally here and there is a lot of reference to things we happen to be familiar with, too. That's a bonus for us.

Oh my goodness, I have just discovered these. I've only read the first one so far - I don't want to rush through them and would love my son to read it multiple times before going on to the next one, as is his wont anyways!

It seems to me that there are several passages that would make excellent character-forming copywork for boys. Has anyone already pulled these out? If not I'll go through the book AGAIN to compile them.

We are almost finished with the first one... we got it as an audio book and my husband has been loving it as much as the boys.

We just started the first one, too. But our copy from the library doesn't have "little britches" in the title. It's just called "Father and I were Ranchers"

That is what the newer editions title it since the whole series is referred to as "Little Britches" Originally, it was the first book in the series.
