I was thinking there was a thread for this, but I am not finding it....
We have really enjoyed reading The Father Christmas Letters by Tolkien and
this week Greetings from Antarctica by Sara Wheeler (cool pictures).
What other good books are out there written in letter form? This style really appeals to my dc, and I can't come up with anything...

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society comes to mind.
Also, Screwtape Letters by Lewis.
Though neither of these would be for young children.

These are really cute. My dc laugh when we read them. The Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin. There are others in her series (definitely picture books though ).
This one by Mark Teaque looks promising. I'm going to have to check these out myself.
My kids are loving The Father Christmas Letters too especially some of the drawings .

I just read Jane Austen's Lady Susan and really enjoyed it. It's a short story that was included in my copy of Northanger Abbey, and is almost entirely in the form of letters. Apparently, Pride and Prejudice started out as an epistolary novel also, which accounts for all the traveling the characters do so that they have people to write to! Anyway, Lady Susan was a fun, quick read, but obviously not for kids who are too young for Austen.

One of the series in Anne of Green Gables is heavey on letters.. Anne of the Island maybe? She was writing to Gilbert and they wre engaged I believe.
Would diary form be similar? You might find more books written that way too.

Diary format would probably turn up more options; I think we have a thread for that. I'll to search it out. The Lady Susan story sounds intriguing...

It's Anne of Windy Poplars, which comes right after Anne of the Island, which is when she and Gilbert get engaged.

Tracy, are you an Anne addict? I sense we might be kindred spirits.
I dragged my dh to Prince Edward Island's many Anne spots this summer...I walked Lover's Lane and gazed out on the Lake of Shining waters...wonderful!

Thanks Tracy.. I've always had more trouble with names than stories.. I can describe the story but couldn't tell you the title

It is very much a young girl book. I would say 12 and up.
Daddy Longlegs
It is an older book about a girl being sponsored (financially) for her education. She writes to her anonymous sponsor and shares her delightful day to day adventures... and at the end... romance!

Hmm, does re-reading the entire series every year or two qualify me?

Beethoven Live Upstairs
I did not realize these stories came in book form! I thought they were just on cd with music. The book lacks the beautiful music but makes up for it with beautiful pictures. I'm late to the party with this one but so excited to find it (on my own bookshelf pushed to the back, no less )
