Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Yesterday I heard a fascinating interview on the radio about PL Travers the author of Mary Poppins.

PL Travers was Australian, born in Queensland and wrote Mary Poppins and sequels in Bowral, NSW. Oh and PL Travers was her pen name.

All this time I just assumed she was English.

That is very interesting! Have you read the sequel? It's on my shelf but no one here has read it.

I have a couple of the sequels, dd read them years ago but can't remember much. We were talking about the books vs movie, in the books there are four children youngest is a baby. There are other differences too.

I haven't read the sequels but the original Mary Poppins is 100X better than the Disney Movie!

My favorite chapter is where the twin babies are talking to the sunlight and to the birds and Mary Poppins says its a shame that when they are a year old they will have forgotten how to do that! Such a wonderful chapter and so sad that part of the story (and the twins! ) didn't make it into the movie!

I read all the books as a child and loved them. I will have to dig out my copy of MP and read it again! (I did like the same chapter Elena does...it really stuck in my memory.)

I had no idea she was Australian! interesting.

I never really liked the books. I thought Mary Poppins was a bit mean.

Recently, I came across this bit of information from The New Age blog, stating that Travers was a theosophist. That explains some things, even that quote that Elena presents.
