Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm reminiscing. Please pardon my indulgent sentimental self.

Someone mentioned the book Night by Elie Wiesel at MODG eloop and I remembered how much my oldest ds loves this story, this book, this writer.

He swears by it. He thinks everyone should read it.

A couple Christmases ago, he requested a copy of Elie Wiesel's writings. He lost his book in Hurricane Rita (a pecan tree smashed into his bedroom).

Here is the post from my old blog (along with a picture):

I bought him a new copy this Epiphany and, when I handed it to him, the phrase he used to describe his feelings were, "Oh, Wow! Sweet!"

You can get your sport-playing, outdoorsy, hunting, fishing, paintball, NAScar loving guys to embrace the world of literature. You really can. I have my proof.

Oh Cay, this is wonderful.

My 16yos just finished reading (for pleasure, mind you)   We Die Alone which fascinated him and now he's reading Pillars of the Earth -- so it works for him too!

For history, he's reading Mark Twain's Life on the Mississippi. Just give him living books and he's fine -- it's the dry text books he had in "real" school that were killing him!

Oh, Cay, what a lovely story!

My son Thomas, recently turned thirteen, is playing a Matrix video game right now - but before this, he was read "The Big Block of Chocolate" by Janet Slater Redhead - this was one of his favourite picture boosk when he was liitle. We reminisced about how we both loved the language in this book.

A contrast between picture books and video games?

Thanks for sharing.
