What are your favorite books for a study of Chaucer, all ages?

Also, are there any other picutre books besides:
Chanticleer and the Fox by Chaucer, illus. by Barbara Cooney?

For younger children (say age 8+) The Canterbury Tales by Geraldine MacCaughrean. This Oxford Illustrated Classics edition is more expensive but has colour illustrations. The Puffin Classics reprint is cheaper but doesn't. Pre-read, as Chaucer can need editing!

For older children, teens and even adults, Tales from Chaucer by Eleanor Farjeon is excellent. Long out of print, but I looked on Bookfinder and there were lots of cheap copies.

Finally, a good translation of the full text is this one by Nevill Coghill. Coghill was a contemporary and friend of C.S.Lewis at Oxford.

Thanks for these suggestions for Chari -- as usual, I'm going to use them also! I'm getting ready to start the kids on a Crusades/Middle Ages unit and the one by Geraldine MacCaughrean (of The Jesse Tree fame -- which the kids LOVED ) sounds perfect. Folloiwng Amazon's links I found two fun-sounding read-alouds by Tolkein -- Smith of Wootton Major & Farmer Giles of Ham is now ALSO in my shopping basket!

You guys are a great resource!

Mary, Geraldine MacCaughrean has also written a version of El Cid which would fit nicely with a Crusades/Middle Ages unit. I haven't read it, but her retellings are usually good. And don't forget St.George and the Dragon. There are nice picture books by Margaret Hodges and - you guessed it! - our friend Geraldineagain.

We loved Farmer Giles of Ham. Haven't come across Smith of Wootton Major, though.
