Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a wonderful Christmas chapter book to suggest. We happened upon it on our last trip to the library when we were looking for our next book in the Betsy-Tacy series, and I checked it out so I could pre-read it before Advent. It is The Trees Kneel at Christmas by Maud Hart Lovelace. It's a beautiful story about a Catholic Lebanese family living in Brooklyn in 1950 or so. The faith is intertwined wonderfully throughout the story. I believe that Maud Hart Lovelace was Episcopalian, but reading this story makes me wonder why she never converted to Catholicism because she honors Catholic beliefs so beautifully.

I highly recommend this book!

Thanks for the recommendation, Irene. It looks wonderful. I just requested it from our library system. I'm also interested in immigrant books so will have another to add to the list, it seems.

I was just reading Lissas' blog and found out about this book. The Betsy and Tacy books were some of my favorites growing up. I can't wait to take a look at it!

Thanks for the recommendation, Irene.
And I thought I had read all MHL's books. This is one of those book findings that simply can't go by unnoticed.

I'm a cradle Catholic but, at one point, I toyed with the idea of becoming Episcopalian because of Betsy and Julia's religious experience.

After my parents explained to me how closely the Episcopalian faith was to our Catholism faith (missing a few key ingredients, of course), I gave up the idea.

Thank God for parents who are wiser than the books we read, huh?
