Does anyone have any information about the Percy Jackson Books?

My children LOVE these books. We read them aloud because we all like them so much.

HUGE hit here. Lots of references to classic mythology, which my ds loves and generally one of the most favorite re read series in our house.
Im liberal about what I allow, but I dont see any red flags here.

looks like these books don't have any red flags.
I plan to check them out. They were brought to my attention by the 2009 B&N Summer Reading Program
Anyone else familar with the books? What age range are the written for?

Amazon usually will have an age range listed but it seems to me every child I know from about 8-14 has enjoyed these immensely.
I've listened to a few bits on tape with my ds and they are exciting and fun.

The final book in the series, The Last Olympian, comes out tomorrow
May 5,09. My children are hoping for a trip to the bookstore in the morning.

Mine too...He got the first four in his Easter Basket and had read them all by that Thursday....these and the Ranger's Apprentice series are huge hits here. He's moved on to Redwall while he waits for the next Percy Jackson and the others Ranger's Apprentice books tobe released in the States.

My oldest son (12 years old) loves them. Originally he had no interest in the d'Aulaire's Book of Greek Myths, but once he read the first two Percy Jackson books he devoured it.

We got the last book Monday, and Quinn didn't surface for air until he finished it Tuesday morning...then went straight to finishing the last of D'Aulaire's myths and now on to the third book of the Jane Yolen Young Heroes series...got to love books that make boys want to read.

argh. am i being naive? i let my 10-year-old get the first book as his free book from B&N's summer reading program. he was immediately hooked! my 13-yo is now also hooked. when i first got the books, i quickly did a search here and found this thread and a couple of others -- and thought -- oh, they're okay with the other 4real moms. now mind you i'm not blaming anyone here, i should have done my job and evaluated it myself, but you know how some things just tend to fall through the cracks. i let this one do just that and now i'm regretting it  . the other day i was perusing i think the 4th book and i found the main character (it's in first person for those who don't know) telling about himself being the son of Poseidon and about "the longest underwater kiss". EWWWW. not something i wanted my 10-yo and 13-yo to read about. yet.
anyway. i'm posting here because i wanted to add that note of caution in case there are other moms who are bothered by this sort of thing... and now i'm going to start another thread on parenting and boys....

I would agree with you that each family needs to pre-read these. If you are not into lots of Greek mythical creatures they are not for you, if you are not into twaddle they are not for you. The main characters are half Greek gods half human.
I saw them as very light reading, and at the risk of rotten tomatoes I only let my 12+ read them, I'm pretty strict though in books, and am valiantly trying to be a bit more relaxed, sort of.
*This is not a comment on anyone else's choices, just saying each family needs to discern individual nearly every time. We are all unique.

We enjoyed these books at our house too and my two oldest daughters (11 & 13) have read the series. Having said that, something that may be disturbing is that each "god" has several children and, though not explicitly explained, one infers from the story that each child has a different mother. I let it pass because it does illustrate the typical "Greek gods" in all their too-human-like weaknesses, which is how they are generally portrayed in mythology.
Definitely twaddle :-) ...but thanks to them my girls did become interested in different poetic devices and are now able to keep all the mythological gods & their powers straight.
