Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

DD (who is 8) was given a book by him for her birthday. I said I had to check it out before she could read it. Trouble is, she's agitating to read it and I haven't got time -- anyone know anything about him and his suitability? The specific title is 'The Wee Free Men'.

Thanks!

I love Terry Pratchett, but he's very cynical (very much like Douglas Adams). I wouldn't think he's particularly suited for an 8 yo girl (she probably wouldn't find him as hysterically funny as a jaded older person, LOL) His books often have "gods" and mythological characters such as werewolves, dwarves, etc. I haven't read that particular book - you should DEFINITELY preview it. The books I've read aren't overtly graphic, but they are very much written for adults.

Thanks for this. I also had a response from the UK list where someone was very enthusiastic but it emerged that the book contained 'good witches' -- that's a no-no for us. I think I need to lose the book...
