Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are going to be learning about pioneer life/mid 19th century throughout the year as part of our American History/culture. (We're not doing formal textbooks or lessons, just immersing ourselves in stories and possibly doing some pioneer type activities like making butter).

I have A Pioneer Sampler, and of course the Little House books. I also found a photography book of all the sites that Laura Ingalls Wilder actually lived (at the used bookstore, yay!)

I need a booklist of other living books. I have 10/9 yo boys who are in 3rd grade, and a second grade girl. My 10 yo reads at a first grade level, but enjoys having books read to him. I want to do Civil War era next year, just concentrating on the pioneers this year.

Any suggestions? Picture books and/or books for reading aloud are acceptable! I particularly would like to find some picture books about Indians and pioneers of this era that avoid the "All White Men are Evil/animism is good" ecological revisionist history. So far it seems most Native American books are from the 17th and 18th century (Squanto, etc.)
