Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We just finished our 30th read aloud for the year and it was a spectacular book -- Seven Little Australians is a wonderful look at life in Victorian-era Australia for a family of seven children, a stepmother (not much older than the eldest child) and their Captain father. Wonderful descriptions and exciting adventures!

Since Erin mentioned that book and named her blog after it, I had dying to read it. I found it last year at a used book sale and gobbled it up. It's a sad ending, kind of like "Little Women" but so good. Now I want to read the others in the series, but they are even harder (i.e. expensive) to find.

Mary,

Glad you liked it

As Jenn said the ending is sad, I've shared with Jenn before I cried for days But I love the sequels even more, it would be hard to come across them though as I've never even seen any of the sequels at used sales here (and believe me I've been to a few )My copies were my mum's.

It was a sad ending but fitting for Judy's personality to want to sacrifice all for the baby ... when my 16yod read it and said it had a sad ending I thought Judy would die of consumption ... I liked the real ending better than what I imagined it to be ...
