The 4th Anniversary of 9-11 is coming up.
Now is the time to go by your library and pick up some carefully selected books for your family to read.

Cay what do you think is a good book to explain what happened Sept 11th. You see my dc don't know anything, my 9 yr, asked the other day what some folks were talking about 9-11, and I gave her a thumb nail idea. They were so young, when it happened and they don't see TV so they really are unaware, and I don't want to frighten the 9 yr old, by explaining to much. Heck it frightens me, let alone a innocent child. Perhaps the question is do they need to know? ( Now that is) I have the same question in refernce to abortion, and any feedback about timing of these horrible situations is welcome.

I realize of course every family is different and ultimatly it is up to my dh and I, I just thought I would like to hear how others deal with this.

Sadly, I still don't think the picture book for children concerning 9-11 has been written. Perhaps it never will be. They have come out with a few more books since I made this list but I haven't seen them. I'm sure your librarian could direct you to any new ones. Perhaps the publishing world is waiting for the 5th Anniv. to present new books.

I was moved to tears with New York's Bravest and I would definitely recommend that one though it only references 9-11 in a still-life way.

September 11, 2001: A Simple Account for Children is a good start and Frankie Wonders...What Happened Today would be good to read on the 11th.

Does National Geo. have an issue out? I'm sure they do. I would use this with the 9 yr old.

Gotta start school now.

Found and read another book that is very suitable for the upcoming anniversary of 9-11.
