Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I wanted to let y'all know about a book we discovered called CUSS by Kristine Franklin. It is a very Catholic book written by a Catholic author, but it is published by a secular publisher so she has had some trouble getting it in front of Catholic families. I posted a review on my blog if you want to know more about it.

If the title concerns you at all, allow me to alleviate your fears. There are no curse words in this book. The title refers to the main character's nickname, Cuss. He earns that nickname because he is gifted in languages and learns the bad words of 14 different languages but we are talking about bad words like "you swine", "dumb cluck" or "fathead". His gift at languages gets put to better use as the story goes on.

As a piece of historical fiction, this book doesn't sugar coat the coarseness of the time period and provides an excellent example of faith and doing what's right.
