Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

At ds's request I am putting together a Harry Potter unit. If anyone cares to join me, I've posted our plans here:A Term at Hogwarts
I will be adding more to this as we go along, but wanted to get the basics out there right away in case anyone is interested.

Theresa,
This is an answer to prayer! My younger kids are all about fairies this term and they are having a grand time sharing back and forth with Katherine's kids. But Christian is plodding through some dry plans and Patrick is just plain doing very little. I think they both need some "community" and the last thing I need to do is drive. They know Superboy and your pictures will make this all come alive for them. Plus, these are delightful plans. I'm not a giant HP fan (but then I'm not a giant fantasy fan at all), but my kids will totally get into this and I'm very, very appreciative of this opportunity for them to tag along.
Did I mention how grateful I am you shared this ?

I posted a comment on your blog, but will ask here so that I don't forget. My kids haven't read HP yet but I have. Do you think we could join in?

I am so excited to have you all join us!
Today we are doing a paper mache activity where we are decorating the cover of his "Care and Feeding of Magical Creatures" book to look like the monster book in the movie. Should be interesting!

I want to go to your 'school' as well .

I am in. My reluctant reader has LATCHED on to the HP books. Reads hours a day (first books she has ever read besides the Bible without being asked (can you tell I'm thrilled!!! )

So this would be timely (ds 12 wolfed down all 7 books in less than 3 weeks!! and loved them!)

have you seen this yahoo group? It is called Hogwarts Summer Correspondence School. There are TONS of ideas and more on the corresponding sub-groups - recipes, crafts, "spoof texts", etc. Not all of it would be appropriate, but lots is. And lots of parents don't limit it to summer. I have found bunches of neat ideas there.

Count us in too! I had been forming ideas on doing this, and your post finally gets me moving on it! Thanks!!!

No, Laura, I had not seen that. I am currently maxed out on the number of groups and such I can keep up with, trying to limit my computer time a bit. But it does sound interesting.

I'm glad you'll be joining us! If you come up with any neat ideas perhaps your could post them here and we can all benefit from them!

(Dd creatively made her own cauldron and wand then started on a great herbology notebook cover)

Thanks Theresa .

That's great, Kristie!Ds is trying his best to talk me into buying a cauldron we saw at Michaels a while back. Perhaps if it weren't for the 1 hour drive to get there I would consider it!

Theresa, this sounds really great for my 8 and 10 yos (my 10 yo especially), but I am afraid we won't be able to do all the activities. Can we be halfway in?

Well, looks like we're getting started already... My 10 yo is very excited and has been excavating his room for all the Imaginary Creatures books. We'll see if this translates into actual tangible work now!

Thanks, Theresa!

Theresa, my daughter made the cauldron out of an old 900g Becel margerine container. She made four 'legs' out of sculpey for it to stand on and put black construction paper on it for now (she might paint it soon).

Excellent Kristie! I don't know why I am letting Superboy be so lazy! Surely he can make his own cauldron!
Angela, that is great! I love the enthusiasm!

Theresa... whoops! That should have read the 1.89kg (4lb) margerine tub size.
