Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We've decided to do Literature this year. I hadn't really planned on it but as we were looking over the state goals/objective it really caught my student's attention. So . . . I would like a resource (the preference range would be free online, cheap book, not-so-cheap book) that will outline the things we need to know with excellent book selection that highlight that particular thing. I guess an example would be Setting, an explanation of setting, and then say, a book like Heidi that has two distinct settings that could be discussed through comparing/contrasting the two. Something like that. Or, character . . . an explanation of what to look for/consider, then something like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Little Women where the various characters could be discusses. It would be great if there were discussion questions/topics to lead to discoveries under that topic.

Any ideas???

I'm not quite sure what ages that you're teaching, but one resource I'm using with our 12yod is called Drawn Into the Heart of Reading. You can use this over again, and you study different genres. You can see it, plus samples here:
Drawn Into the Heart of Reading and here:

another site to see it and here:

Rainbow Resource site

Progeny Press Guides are very popular in the homeschool community. You can read a review here:
HS Review for Progeny Press Guides

Here is Cathy Duffy's page for literature guides/curriculums that may help you read about the ones I mentioned, and others as well:
Cathy Duffy Reviews on literature

Hope this helps some!
