Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am trying to draw up some reading lists for my kids for the summer - they all love reading, and we need to have a plan for the library. I have a dd age 10 and twins ds age almost 8 - they are all fairly advanced readers. Also I am trying to find some good read-alouds. My husband is reading the whole Swallows and Amazons series with them. We have done the Little House series, Anne of Green Gables, Narnia. I am considering some of the Bethelehem Book ones - we have read-aloud the first of the Mitchells, the Bantry Bay and Fairchild series - I could get the other ones.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

We read The Penderwick's aloud last summer. If you haven't read it, add it to your list. I am sad that the sequel isn't ready yet!

Blessings ~

I second The Penderwick's. We read it aloud last summer and even the big kiddos just loved it.

We read Tale of Desperaux this year. It is written by Kate DiCamilla (sp?) I think this would be a great summer read aloud. It's a bit intense in places so I think it would do better as a read aloud. My 6 yr. old, who usually plays quietly nearby when I read, stopped what he was doing and would listen for quite awhile. I loved this book. Right now, this one is my all-time favourite.

Blessings,
