Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

You come to the last book in a series you love . . . and don't want to read it too fast so that it is not over too soon . . . and then find out that there is another one being released in less than a month!

By the way, thank you so much to whoever it was who originally suggested the #1 Ladies Detective Agency series. (Was it Natalia?) I have been enjoying them so much. They have given me a great glimpse of the beauty of Africa. And have made me laugh and come to love all the characters too.

OK, I just went back and looked at last years' reading list here. It looks like Erica mentioned the books first, followed by Natalia. Thanks to both of you!

Chari mentioned noticing that we tend to like similar reads, and I agree. I have noticed the same thing about the books that Natalia mentions.

Thanks for the information about the author's visit to GMU, Jen. I'd love to go. It's the night before oldest dd's Confirmation, so I don't know if it's possible. I'd like to try though. Want to come with me, Mary Chris, if I can swing it?

Gwen,

I didn't, actually. Someone here must have because it's where I first read about the series. A mystery.....

I loved the first two and need to get the third from the library. How many are there?

Hi Erica,
I'm not Gwen, but I think you meant me.    I saw that you mentioned reading the first book on the 2006 Book List thread. Maybe someone else mentioned the series elsewhere on the forum before that.

The newest book makes 8 in the series. I liked the first two, but have really enjoyed each one after that more and more.

Sorry, Irene! I wonder why I was thinking of Gwen. I think it was because around the same time I read the #1 Ladies books she recommended The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio book. At least I think she did!

We'll have to do a little more digging around to see who first brought these books up. Could it have been Mary Chris?

You made me curious about this, Erica, so I did a more detailed search. Mary Chris mentioned the books back in Dec. 2005. But I think Faith gets credit for first mentioning them, way back in Feb. 2005 on the "Our running list of book recommendations" thread.

You are all very funny and entertaining

Weird, Erica, I was looking for some books about Ohio on my library website, and I found that Prize winner of Defiance book, and it arrived today, and then I come here to the boards and see you mention it.....was it worth reading?

.....see, we all keep reading the same books

BTW, Irene, did you add it to our book list for 2007?

Ah, wonderful! I have been in dire need of a good book series to read while I sit and nurse my sweet little baby! I have been watching Food TV and that hasn't been so good for this postpartum figure, iykwim? I'm going to order the first two titles from amazon as an early Easter present!

I also loved the Prizewinner of Defiance Ohio, and only read it after it was mentioned on the forum a few summers ago.

I get my best book recommendations from all of you here these days!

No, I still need to post a few recent reads on the list.

That's exactly why I'm getting so much reading done these days!!! Nursing is a wonderful excuse to read on a daily basis.

Not Erica, but I loved the Prize Winner of Defiance when I read it seveal years ago. There is a movie out too, slightly different than the book but then they usually are.
