Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

and their amazing friendship -- any suggestions?

I've found some on Amazon but I don't know if the publishers are trustworthy.

Any guidance is much appreciated! And if this is more suited for another board, admin, please move, thanks!

My mother is a Secular Franciscan, so I asked her input:

Quote:
Right now, I can’t think of a book dealing ONLY with that topic. But almost all the biographies include chapters about their deep spiritual friendship. There’s a story in the Little Flowers about one particular incident. It reminds of the of the Benedict and Scholastica story a little in that Clare longed to see Francis to talk of God. They met (with others) in the wood near the Portiuncula. (I may not be remembering everything exactly right.) Anyway, the townspeople of Assisi saw this bright light in the wood and thought it was a fire. However, when they went to investigate, it was just the two saints in ecstasy emitting the light because of the fire of their love for God.

I’m sure Thomas of Celano devotes a few chapter to Clare. Francis and Clare weren’t friends before she left her family. She was drawn by his preaching to embrace the life of poverty.
