Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

(asking here and on facebook......)

I have never read Flannery O' Connor. I am thinking it may be time to start.....any recommendations on which book to start with? Which one is considered her best?

Thanks, my bibliophilic friends!

I've heard numerous, really inspiring, thoughtful homiies by Fr. Robert Barron (wordonfire.org) and he loves Flannery O'Connor. So I decided to give her a try.
After a few short stories, I wasn't all that drawn in, so asked another well-educated Flannery fan. His advice was to start w/ some of her earliest short stories and to use/search out a literature guide or some other such tool (which he couldn't recommend). He said that he'd initially had my experience, and it was only after he took a graduate seminar on her that his eyes were opened. He's been a huge fan ever since, and if he were not so far away, he'd be a great resource.
Still thinking of tackling her, but need to regroup.

I like her in short bursts. I first read Good Country People and Everything that Rises Must Converge. I'd get one of her story collections and read a couple at a time.

I have a fat book full of her short stories. They are dark and odd. I like that, like Kyra, in spurts. I go on kicks. I love her pithy Catholic woman outlook.
