Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Yes, heard about it, read it, studied it in high school. Wonderful. There is also an old black and white movie with subtitles that is quite moving. This priest suffered much.

The book is deep, not a page turner necessarily. And the movie is a bit slow, so not necessarily enjoyable for little ones.

This is a great book! I read it for a grad-level course on Cathlic literature (along with LeFort's Song at the Scaffold).

I loved the Country Priest -- he was so very humble and modest. Definitely a teen/adult kind of story though becuase it is more a psychological story than a "fun read".....

Mary, this is why you are a writer and I'm not! Thanks for filling in my blanks!

Now this was not a true story, but you really are convinced that he was a true flesh and bones person. It makes you think of the Cure d'Ars (he's a French priest) and St. Therese with the quite suffering he undergoes.

Jenn -- I had a great teacher. An Austrian professor who is very mystical -- two of her sisters are hermitesses and why she isn't one, I'll never know. Maybe because she has such a gift for teaching!
