A while ago someone posted a link to a list of writers that included D E Stevenson. I think the list was about women who wrote about the home arts, but, anyway, somehow I picked up on D E Anderson. I am just finishing "Spring Magic" and it has been a true treat for me. 
I love the calm and comforting writing style she has, plus I love reading about simpler times (not that WW II is simple, but life was so less frenetic).
The main characters are always going out for long walks or singing or having tea.... there just seemed to be so much more time to *enjoy* life.
No one is rushing the kids off practice or constantly checking e mail  or ignoring everyone in the room to talk on their cell phones or send text messages.
Reading this book has been like vacation. So thanks to whomever posted that list!

Melinda,
You have to read Mrs. Tim Christie--witty and just such a relaxing read...and Hester Christie is a lovely character--just lovely! Teamommy is the one who recommended the books. I owe her big time. I just finished reading Mrs. Tim Christie and I am hooked! I will try Spring Magic after I am done with this series.

Okay, since I had never heard of her or her books, where do I start? Is there an order or a first book to be read? I hate to read something only to find out it is the sequel to something else.

I am not sure, but I think Miss Buncle's Book is the first one she wrote. I don't think she wrote all her books as a series, but there is a follow up to Miss BUncle's Book.

Mrs. Tim Christie (published in the UK as Mrs. Tim of the Regiment) is the first in a series, followed by Mrs. Tim Carries On, Mrs. Tim Gets a Job, and Mrs. Tim Flies Home. Depending on which title you can find at the library, I bet either title would be a great place to start. Happy Reading!

Oh, my- this book is hysterical! I have read the first quarter and have just been laughing out loud. Thanks to all who recommended it. Definitely one to pick up if you need a domestic laugh

Me too! I've been reading it in the evenings in bed. Thanks for starting this thread!
In fact, as I read it I thought about keeping a diary and it occurred to me that I should keep a diary/journal to write in every day for Lent. I went to see my spiritual director last night and had it written down along with some other ideas, but I was afraid it was a silly idea and had a bunch of question marks next to it, and I hadn't decided if I should bring it up.
So, while we were discussing some other completely unrelated ideas for lent, he was asking me to do an in depth examination of self each day regarding what we were talking about, and he said, "You know, maybe you should even journal about it." It was so strange. What a Godincidence!
