Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Any of you ladies putting in 'an order' for yourselves for Christmas? Dh has just given me carte blanche but I'm not sure what to get

Thought it would be fun to hear what you are planning.

Erin, I've been reading a good bit of fiction lately.. I stay ahead of my 12 yr old daughter on the Ranger's Apprentice series and some of the retold fairy tales by Shannon Hale and Robin McKinley and others. She'll be getting a set of Shannon Hale books.. one we haven't read yet And my son will be getting some interesting books on camping and scout cooking, and the middle girls are going to get the Daring and Double Daring books for girls.. and I think I'm going to get my dh "Oregon's Dry Side: Exploring East of the Cascade Crest". So lots of things I can share

So for myself I've really been wanting something more focused on the wife part of me vs the mom or teacher or housekeeper or "person" parts

I found this one that looks good.

Life-Giving Love : Embracing God's Beautiful Design for Marriage by Kimberly Hahn

Though I still need to look around and see what others say about it here

I have this and read it about 6-7 years ago. It is an excellent book but is primarily about being open to life, not wifely things in general. It's been awhile since I read it but that was the main point IIRC. So it's not like Holiness for Housewives, for example. just fyi

Thanks Karen, that could be nice.. maybe I can find another book that's not too much besides that one.

It's rather hard to have a conversation about having any more when most people think you're nuts because you already have 8 kids and why wouldn't you at least use NFP (implied "if you're stupid enough not to use contraception").

umm that wouldn't be here.. why do you think I like *here* so much

I was going to say the same thing. I usually give it as a gift to newly wed friends - it is very good.

The Kimberly Hahn that I have had on my wishlist for ages is a really wonderful set of cds A mother's rule of life in the domestic church

That sounds neat Marilyn.. but listening to CDs right now just doesn't happen.

So what other book might you suggest on marriage in general.. no problems just wanting a boost in that area you know.

There is another Kimberly Hahn book that is supposed to be more about wifely/home centered things, called "Graced and Gifted". The CD set has a lot of appeal, too, but it's pretty expensive, and , as JodieLyn says, "listening to CDs right now just doesn't happen".I think I"ll check and see whether our parish library has that set, though; it might be a good thing to borrow some other time.
My wish list includes Graced and Gifted, and also Karen E."s Rosary book.

Peace,
Nancy

Thanks for all the ideas
I put my order in but I've written down your ideas
I ended up ordering Signs of Life – Scott Hahn and the Heart of Motherhood- Donna-Marie Cooper O’Boyle and Kristin Lavransdatter- Sigrid Undset for dd16.
