Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

...do you read? When I bought my copy in college I didn't know there were multiple options. I bought "My Imitation of Christ" revised/edited by the Confraternity of the Precious Blood (1954) and beautifully illustrated by Ariel Agmian. "The text has been revised to free it of archaic expressions without destroying its original flavor"

I just pulled my husband's hard-cover "The Imitation of Christ" off the shelf and saw that it was newly edited by Clare L. Fitzpatrick (1977). The illustrations are 70-ish. It is much easier to read but I feel like something is missing...perhaps struggling with the language in the version that I have 'forces' me to reflect on it more deeply?

I know that there are many other editions available. Which do you prefer?

Stephanie, this one is super, and written in a conversational (yet not flippant) style. The forward is by Fr. Benedict Groeschel.

My Imitation of Christ written by THOMAS A KEMPIS is diamonds and gold!
I've been reading that since I was 16 years old!
After my Douay Rheims Bible, it is my favourite book in the world

Kelly - the reviews on this one (including those by people who have compared editions) looks great. Thanks!
Nique - who is the publisher of your copy?
