Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What audio books has your husband listened to or is listening to that he really liked.

I'm looking for some suggestions for dh's long road trips over the next couple of months.

It can be anything.....fiction, non-fiction, adventure, biography, new releases, politics, Catholic, history, etc. Anything.....

He is currently listening to Rachel May's suggestion of Big Russ and Me and really likes it.

I'm not sure if you have mp3 capability, but EWTN's Audio Library of free downloads are really good. As are Lighthouse Media's, though their downloads are $2 each. If he has access to the CDs from the library, church, or whatever, Jeff Cavins' Great Adventure CDs, Adventures in Matthew CDs, Catholocism 101 CDs, etc. are really fascinating as well.
As for stories, the Chronicles of Narnia CDs done by Focus on the family are nice (and CHEAP at Library and Educational Services- the 17 cd set is about $15 I think). They are very well done. There are other CDs available there as well.

Hope that helps some,
Christine

There are heaps of free books at librivox.org. Lots of G K Chesterton that i would love to have the opportunity to listen to. Doesn't follow that your husband would too, but there is so much old stuff there you should be able to find something. They're volunteers, but some are surprisingly good. I go for Hillaire belloc and Chesterton, but you probably have other favourites.

Project Gutenberg has some free audio books too. Public domain texts - theory is if they've survived this long they must be good.

My husband has enjoyed the Spiritual Boot Camp tapes by Fr. Shannon Michael Collins (Father of Mercy). I don't know if you can get them on CD.

It probably was. The Fathers of Mercy do a lot of parish retreat type conferences and they are wonderful!!! Husband said this set of tapes was very orthodox, challenging and yes, very manly!

We're big fans of Father Collins too, he's been at past IHM conferences too, so maybe you could check out their website to order some of his talks. I really enjoyed his "Enduring the Winter of Unbelief" talk.

I was going to recommend The Lord of the Rings series. My dh loved listening to these on his long commutes.

Suzanne, we have a few Pete could borrow if you like:

Legacy by Steve Woods -- it's a multi-CD series on fatherhood

"The Rosetta Key" and also "The Dakota Cipher" by William Dietrich which are total Indiana Jones type adventure stories--entertaining and fun. A couple of scenes that we fast-forwarded (David and I listened to them on our CA roadtrip last year) due to mature content.

Librivox Free downloadable public domain books read by volunteers. Some of course are better than others.. but there's tons of books.. when browsing I saw some Chesterton, some saints writings, Jules Verne, Zane Grey, Jack London, Mark Twain, etc etc.

We're listening to The Forgotten Man by Amity Shlaes right now. We're so romantic--we listen to economic history while doing the dishes together.

So far it's really great--a "new" history of the Great Depression. Rather hard on FDR and the New Deal.

We downloaded it during a free trial from Audible.com

My dh (and teens) loved the All Creatures Great and Small series read by Christopher Timothy. (he also played James Herriot in the British TV show, love that series!)
