Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am looking for a book for my husband and I to read together during Lent (ideally a book on tape to listen to together)

My husband expressed some interest in a book on Bible history that takes the Bibles and explains the corresponding geographical and political history of that time.

I don't know if I am explaining myself very well....

You may also want to check out the Footprints of God Video Series. They are described as documentary, bible study, history, geography and apologetics all rolled into one. Each one comes with an in-depth study to accompany it. Each video is filmed on location throughout the Holy Land, Mediterranean countries and Rome. My family has enjoyed them tremendously and we have learned so much!

We are totally in love with the Footprints of God series at our house!

I don't know if this program suits what you're looking for, but thought I'd put the idea out there: Ascension Press - Bible Timelines. This link will take you to a list of all their Bible timeline products. Our parish is currently using the "Quick Journey through the Bible" and the participants are really getting a lot out of it (I've not been able to attend, but have done the first half of it myself and am looking forward to the rest!). That one might be ideal for Lent given the time frame. Price-wise: the DVDs are nice, but you could get a lot from the CDs (with less money!); and these are great just to go through in and of themselves, without the student or leader books... however, one "student pack" could be shared between spouses (we've actually asked the company about this!) - I can't remember if the leader pack book includes a copy of the student book within it - if you're interested, let me know and I'll check.

I've purchased the Kids version, and it was just shipped yesterday, so I'll have an opinion on that one soon.

I've previewed the Teen Timeline and liked what I saw there too.

Catholic Mommy. I will check out the website and the Bible timelines- it sounds just want my husband was talking about. I would be interested in knowing what the leader pack includes!
Thanks!

The leader book does include all the questions from the student book - slightly different format, but for a home thing with just you and your husband, it appears it would work just fine (and be cheaper than buying both packs!). And again, I'm just watching the DVDs myself without the books at all and am gaining a lot that way too (however, when the group is done with the leader book, I'm borrowing it full time to see if there is anything more I can gain from it).

I took a look at it and I really like the look of it all. But $400 for the DVDs and $150 for CDs is out of price range. Thanks for recommending it though!

Wow! That is a lot! Did you look at the Quick Journey version or the full 24 week version?

The Quick Journey is the one I was mostly referring to - 8 sessions and perfect for a Lent study - the CDs are $40 and the leader pack is $25 - which can still be a lot but is a LOT cheaper than the full version!

Even so, we watched the Footprints of God video on Abraham last night - and those are VERY good as well :)

I think it must have been the full version, I don't think I saw a quick journey one, I'll check that out.

I haven't looked at Footprints of God yet, I looked for it on Amazon, but not sure if that was the right thing.

That sounds really good too, I will look for that. Do you remember where you got it.

Thalnks for all your help!

Found a link!

The first two Footprints we watched were bought at Goodwill - now I have a few in my office at one of the parishes I work for and I borrow them whenever. I'm happy for this thread because it prompted to look to see how many there are, so I know which ones to still be looking for.

The sad part is that they are more expensive than I anticipated AND only on DVD (I still have a love for VHS, mostly because we go through DVD players like other people go through candy - they just don't last for us).

If you're interested in them, see if your parish has them for borrowing and the website has free study guides.

Thanks for all of your great recommendations, we are going to check out many of them!

I showed my husband your recommendations, and he was most excited about Footprints of God, so we are going to try that first.

Jennifer, thanks for the netflix recommendation. We have always talked about trying it so this is the perfect opportunity!

I can't find Footprints of God on Netflix. If someone does, can you tell me the search words you used? (It might just be me!)

I did find this thread with other's thoughts on the Great Adventure and the series "Our Father's Plan" (which is what I was trying to look up).

I don't know if this link will work, CatholicMommy, but you have to search under the specific title of that "Footprints of God" DVD. So...here's Moses: Signs, Sacraments, and Salvation.

I went to the Footprints of God site and found the titles and searched under the specific title name.

HTH!

Eek! Can you all see my netflix queue through this link? Not that I have anything unsavory in there. But, I wondered if I was linking you to my account??????

Can somebody try the link and tell me. And, don't laugh at all the "Air Bud's" in my queue either!

Jennifer,

I think you're ok! I just clicked the link and it came up with the movie info, but with the "member log-in" link in the upper right corner. Thank you for figuring that out for me! I didn't think to type the individual title.
