Okay, I should know this, because St. Margaret Mary is my confimation patron, and my daughter's patron, but I don't
For the first Friday devotion, do we receive communion, or participate in Mass? I ask because the first Friday in April is Good Friday, where there will be no Mass, but we will be able to communicate. Does it make a difference?

What about reconciliation? Is it also required? Monthly? I believe you have 8 days before or after to make confession...is that correct?

Is adoration required as part of the devotion? I don't even know if any churches around here have adoration...

I hope I don't sound legalistic...I'm just wondering what's needed.

Wow...good question? I always thought it was attendance at Mass AND communion. Going to double check, but still...

If it's First Friday of the month Mass or the First Friday Mass of the month? (Do you catch my meaning by moving the preposition??)

Since there is no Mass on the very first Friday...I wonder if it's moved to the second friday which becomes "the First Friday Mass of the month."

I have no idea! I hope someone who does replies! I'll also drop an e-mail to my priest bil!

My brother in law wrote me back and thought that only communion was required for the 9 first fridays -- he didn't claim to be an authority, but that was his understanding, he said.

I checked catholicculture.com and they said the same.

I then stumbled upon this website: Miracle Rosary Mission

They both seem to support Father's understanding. The rosary website also list adoration, mass, consecrations to the Sacred Heart etc. as all efficacious activities for First Friday, but not necessary.

And for years, I have been under the mistaken impression that you need to follow the same guidelines as indulgences to make the 9 first fridays! Obviously you would gain more graces through indulgences if you did confession, etc., but it is not necessary for the 9 first fridays from what I can tell from several sources now!

Maryan, thanks so much for checking into this, and thanks to your bil the priest! I'm glad to hear that reconciliation isn't required, becuase I didn't go last month. I think I'll try to make it monthly, but that will have to start this month!
