Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My dd (10) really wants to start making rosaries - for the sick, for FHC gifts and birthdays etc. I have no idea where to get the beads and instructions from. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

We just shop at our local bead store. I've been stringing beads on thin, nylon coated wire. The shop can tell you what you would need.

For some really great tutorials and ideas see Alice Cantrell's wonderful site Gardens of Grace

This is such a wonderful project. We started making rosaries a few years ago and have been happy with Lewis & Company's St. Theresa's Mission Rosary Kits.

I have made these with our church and with private groups. It is fun for all ages, my 6 year old has even joined us.
My biggest tip is: prepare your string early, measure, cut & dip each end in cheap clear nail polish to give a stiff end for threading. This makes a bug difference, especially for the kids.

It is so much fun and we loved is so much we moved on the fancier rosaries, have Lewis & Company send you a catalog, they have beautiful pieces.

If you have any questions let me know, it is a great project.

Our Lady's Rosary Makers (OLRM) is the place to go for "mission Rosary" parts. Their prices are the best and have good instructions.

I don't have alot of time to write but I have made just about every type of rosary imagionalble, so write if you have more questions!

Thanks,
Betsy

I will add just one more thing....

It really is a lot quicker to have someone show you how to make the knotted Rosaries. They aren't hard, per se, but some of the knots are hard to explain but easy to show, KWIM?

A lot of churches have Rosary making groups...you might want to find one and have them show you how. But, if that isn't possible, you can learn from the instructions with a bit of patients.

Glad to help,
Betsy

Marilyn,

There is a priest in Leesburg that regularly makes knotted rosaries. There are such fun colors and twine. Our family made small one decade rosaries for shower gifts, and my brother and sil used these small decade rosaries as wedding favors, since their wedding date was on the feast of the Rosary. I have several versions of instructions, but like Betsy said, it helps to see it demonstrated. Father had all my family over and did a little rosary session (when I say "my family" I mean the local 5 siblings, my parents and all the kids, lots of us). He has had rosary making workshops to teach, too. Knotting can be done anywhere, anytime, like taking up knitting. I could try and teach. Would you like some of the links? I have to dig them up...

I would love to do the beaded rosaries...they can be so beautiful, and since making jewelry is so "in" it would be easy to learn the craft and apply to rosaries.

For inspiration, see Alice Cantrell's designs and Mrs. K's Beads of Mercy. Alice provides a few sources for beads and rosary parts.
