Any plans for Holy Trinity Sunday you can post? We've got a dr. appt. and field trip to see the Lewis and Clark exhibit at the museum tomorrow but I hope to talk about natural symbols that represent trinity, the most obvious being the shamrock...there's also the triangle...3 circles...any others? What about food (not symbolic--real, to eat  ).

Dear Gwen,
What about a three-layer cake or a triple decker sandwich? That might be a fun way to show how something can be three in one and one in three.
I've just uploaded three nice images of the Blessed Trinity to the files section at the Catholic Charlotte Mason site. Perhaps you can print them out for your children. Please go to Trinity Images. The third image, showing a stained glass window, would make a nice model for a three-layer-cake decoration if you had a bit more time. Perhaps, to save time, you could frost the cake in white, and put the printed out image directly on top of the cake! (The day of Pope Benedict XVI's inauguration, I purchased a Black Forest Cake at the bakery and decorated it with a printed out image of him stuck right into the top of the cake!)
Another quick Trinity craft would be to print out an image of the Trinity (see files section), glue it to a good sturdy piece of cardstock, and then write on the Trinity Prayer on the back:
Love of Jesus fill us,
Holy Spirit guide us,
Will of the Father be done!
To get a bit more fancy, cut out three triangles, attaching them together with tape so that they are joined on one side (hard to explain without a diagram, but the center triangle would be taped on the right and left sides to the other triangles, so that the other two triangles can be folded over the center triangle). On the first triangle, write "Love of Jesus, fill us" with a picture of God the Son. This would open to the second triangle, and on that triangle write, "Holy Spirit, guide us" with an image of the Holy Spirit. This would open to the inside triangle with the words, "Will of the Father, be done!" The cross-shaped image from the files section would be perfect for the center. You didn't ask for a craft idea, but once I start rambling, I just can't stop!
If you are going to be outdoors, bring along a compass to show the chldren that the compass points "true north" and reminds us of the guidance of the Holy Spirit, invisible to the bodily senses, yet always directing us in the Truth. BTW, it is not a perfect Trinitarian image, but I like the fact that a compass itself has three parts--the base, the arrow, and the magnetic force pointing north.

We plan to make a wall hanging with the symbols my ds uses to talk about the Holy Trinity. He wants to use wind and fire for the Holy Spirit, the Good Sheperd for Jesus and clouds for God the Father.
I am going to print the Trinity prayer on it as well.
Alice-you have the best ideas.

I read years ago in a Jewish customs book that early civilizations would bake their bread in the shape of how many gods they worshipped. So, if it was 2 or 4 gods, the bread would have 2 or 4 "corners." Jews would bake their bread in round, circular shapes, no corners because they believe in one God.
I know, a bit of a tangent.  I just wanted to pass that observation on.
To me, bread always plays a key role in feastdays. I was thinking of cloverleaf rolls, which have three shapes in the one roll, or from Secrets of Jesuit Breadmaking, Brother Rick would divide his bread loaf dough into three parts, and then combine to make three "humps" in the one bread loaf.

Dear Alice,
I tried to open the images from the file you uploaded but all I got on my word document page was the following message:
QuickTime and a TIFF (Uncompressed) decompressor are needed to see this picture. 
Can you tell me where you found them on the web so I can go directly to them online? I usually can see QuickTime pictures when online.

I am so sorry you had trouble opening the file. The way I found the images was by doing a Yahoo *Image* search and typing "Holy Trinity" and then "Blessed Trinity." Unfortunately, I did not save the specific websites, but if you go to Yahoo, a ton of nice images will come up.
