Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I didn't see a post on this for this year....

Need 3 purple and 1 pink candle for your Advent wreath? What are your sources?

Last year MaryM gave a source for some beautiful candles and I can't find the link. I ordered them, and they were gorgeous.

I also found a pack of 3 purple and 1 pink at JoAnn's Fabric Store. And for several years I've used some brilliant purple foil colored candles I've found at Target...and this year they had some more. It's harder to find pink at this time of year, but since it's an odd man out anyway, I don't always match them.

I bought mine at Target this year. The pink one is more of a coral. I don't love it. But...I guess it will work.

I just saw a nice pack at Pat Catan's craft store. I am not sure if they are regional or national but that is also where we buy our candles for the Advent log.

Jenn,
Locally, the Catholic Shop had several different sizes already packaged. I was there today and there were plenty.

The company I mentioned last year is Coyote Found. They have such a high quality, nice burning candle. We can find them at the local health food stores here as well - though color selection is often limited in the stores.

Thanks, Mary! I bought them last year, and I have plenty for the next few years, but I wanted to remember that place. They are so lovely.

I like my purple and pink to be brilliant and bright colors...just a personal preference. The usual candles are dull and lifeless to me.

Those are beautiful candles Mary! Too bad they have a minimum of $100. Did you find them locally Jenn or did you order a whole bunch of candles last year?

The link Mary sent is wholesale, and I ordered through the retail link, which right now is having technical difficulties. You could call to see. I definitely didn't order $100 worth. Dh would think I was nuts! I forget what sets they had...I think I ordered 12 purple and 6 pink? I can't remember.

Wow! Those are vibrant colored candles at Coyote Found!

Marianna and I just returned from trying to put together a tiny Advent Wreath that will fit in the alloted space on the boat. Our tiny, tiny votives fit what we ended up with really well, I only have vanilla-y cream colored right now but I'm keeping my eyes peeled for purple and pink. We'll go through plenty this year if we stick with and use votives...

Yeah, sorry about the wholesale link - as Jenn said the retail is down right now and I wanted to be able to post something so you could see the styles and colors. You can also buy them through some other on-line retailers.

Oohhhh! They have Frankincense and Myrrh candles, wouldn't that be lovely for Epiphany in a GOLD coloured candleholder?

Too bad I live in Canada and the shipping, duty and taxes would triple the cost of those lovely candles
.

This year, we're going to use Dawn's idea of the homemade votive wreath. Mostly because this is our first year celebrating Advent in our home and I need to keep it relatively simple...but I bring this up because she had the idea of wrapping votive holders in purple and pink sheer ribbon (and then she used Tealight candles in the Votive holders).

Just wanted to throw that out should you be unable to find the purple and pink candles...

We always buy Advent sets at the local religious article store, but, believe it or not, this year I saw them at my local plant store (source of Christmas trees) as well.

I also like Dawn's idea.

We have dipped ours in the past, I have purchased them from Leaflet Missal, and this year I actually found them at the Yankee Candle store.
Maybe it is my imagination but some years they are easy to find and some years I have to look much harder. (Probably just because I never seem to go back to the same source.

I usually go to the local craft store and buy separate 12 inch tapers in purple and pink. This year I got them at A.C. Moore while there for some Christmas shopping last week. I used a 30% off coupon passed on by Mary Chris for everything that wasn't already on sale.

I don't know anybody here in Germany who uses violet and pink for Advent. I am definitely the oddball... In Church we have beeswax candles which I have always used up to last year when I decided to go for the violet and pink. I found some this year too, although it was very difficult and many would argue that the violet isn't really violet, etc.   Now dh tells me he really doesn't like the violet-pink combo. UGH! I spent way too much on the candles as it is, I am definitely going to use them and he is going to like them! I may have to try something new out anyway because of limited space. Possibly, I will decorate the candles with fir tree branches, cinnamon sticks and ribbon on a wooden log or plank for our window sill, instead of a wreath. I know the wreath form has symbolic meaning, but the candles are too big for a wreath that will fit on our table.
OK, so I flubbed it up royally this year! But it will still be festive and full of meaning, won't it?????

I got a bit of Dawn's idea and made do with what I found at the local Michael's. (Dawn, I couldn't remember whose blog I saw the homemade wreath on -- thanks so much for sharing!) They only had two colors that would fit into the purple/pink theme -- the pink was a little too light but oh well. I then got a brass plate ($2.99) and an Oasis piece for greens, which we cut off the bottom of the fir tree we got last Friday. The long tapers will be in little crystal holders (the most expensive part of the whole thing, at $1.99 each) and then I got a large white candle for the middle. I wanted a taller one but they didn't have any. So now all we have to do is add ribbons and/or pinecones, etc. I'll have the kids do that, and post a pic here or on my blog sometime.

Wow, those candles at Coyote are BEAUTIFUL -- love the vibrant colors! Next year.

I used Dawn's idea, but put in Yankee Candle company candles... which were the only votives I could find in the right colours! It looks pretty though
