Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've just received a sample issue of Magnificat and I was wondering if some of you who use it regularly can give me ideas of how you use it? When do you read it? Do you use it with your family? How do you implement the monthly features? Do you use it at daily Mass?

I read it at lunchtime or in the afternoon "quiet time".   I usually don't get to the morning prayers until that time.
I try to bring it to Mass and my 10yo likes to read it.
I read the evening and night prayers in the evening.
Sometimes I copy out the meditations or scriptures into my "commonplace book", usually in the evening.
We don't have a daily Mass where we live.
I really enjoy this magazine and have gotten a subscription for my son at college too.

I try to read everything in the morning except for the evening prayers. Otherwise I always plan to read it around lunchtime and never get to it. I love having it at Mass (or at least the Magnifikid) because our missals at Church don't have the readings in them, not even the Gospel. And sometimes it's difficult for me to hear the reader, so it makes it harder to concentrate on the reading unless I have it in front of me.

I read the morning prayers and the Mass first thing in the morning. If I don't do it then, it does not happen. My dd likes for me to bring it to Mass so she can follow the readings.
I try to share the saint information and/or the meditation with the children.

We use the Mass readings and saint entries for prayer in the morning with the children. I read the meditations as well as the Mass readings in the morning for my personal prayer time (earlier than prayers with the children). That way, after hearing the Mass readings, I am prepared to share with the children some reflection based on the meditation.

Peace,
Nancy

I wish I used it more than once a day.    With my dh's weird schedule, I use it either in the morning (morning prayer and readings) OR in the evening (readings and evening prayer). Depending on how soon I am going to be interrupted by littlies, I don't always do the canticles, but I do try to pray with it rather than just read it.

I have found it to be immensely valuable. The reflections are excellent, and I enjoy the saint for the day. When I have been full of anxiety over something or other (a personal struggle), it seems like praying with the Magnificat always puts me back on the road to Jesus and to peace.

I also really love the Lenten and Advent readings.

I use it for my morning prayer, to read the readings before Mass, and occasionally for night prayer. But the morning prayer is the core of what I use it for. It starts my day right. I notice a difference if I skip it for any reason. I'm sure that that goes for any morning prayer, not just Magnificat, but Magnificat makes it very, very easy. I'm not at a station in my life to commit to more than morning prayer and Mass, so much of it goes unread unless I have "extra" time. But I still think it's worth the cost. My MIL bought it for me when I converted, and I will continue even if I only use half of what it offers. My goal is to eventually use every issue cover to cover.

Thank you so much ladies for your replies! I'm looking forward to using it daily when December starts, and I've started to read some of the articles. I like the idea of taking it to Mass for my 'visual' dd to follow along with the readings.

A friend of mine suggested that I at least read the Mass readings each night before, to see what God is telling us for the next day. That has been working for me, since I love to have a few minutes of quiet reading before bed.
Then I do try and get to it at least once during the day.
I also love the art work in the back and sometimes use it for art and religion for the kids.

I've gotten Magnificat for my birthday for three years, and it's the best source for meditation I know. I really notice a difference in my inner peace when I haven't taken time to read it.
I try to remember to bring it to Mass and Benediction. If your Adoration is silent, that would be a great place to bring it.
Once, at a Corpus Christi Procession, my Magnificat came in handy as a hymnal for traditional hynms.
Enjoy!
