Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

catechism by Joseph Fitzmyer? A 2 part class is being offered by our neighboring parish and they advertised it at our parish. I have not found much about this author but did see that it is put out by Paulist Press which I am not too sure about either....Anyone familiar with this book? Thanks!

Hollee,
I technically a moderator here, but I haven't posted here for a while. I still drop by to see how things are going on this board. I'm a friend of Tim's and a theology student at the John Paul II Institute in Washington DC.

I read a few parts of that book online and I had some serious problems with the way it presented Scripture. It does a good job at exposing truth found in the Gospels, but it looks at the Gospels from mostly a historical point of view with little, if any, mention of the Divine authority of them. Fr. Fitzmyer is incredibly educated so I would recommend that you go to the class as long as you don't bring your children and you go in with the realization that some things will be said that will try your faith. If you think that it might be unhealthy for you, then you might want to stay away.

I hope this helps.

God bless,
Patrick

Patrick,
I'm glad you popped in! I was thinking that it might not be a class for me. I am still a long way from being able to figure out for myself when someone is treading the line between faithfulness and heresy...it has to be pretty blatant for me to figure it out, so I try to stay away from anything that is not 100% faithful to the Magisterium. I don't need anything that tries my faith at this point!! It sounds as if some of the stuff presented may be subtle and I don't pick up on subtlties very well. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with me!
