Anyone care to share ideas for celebrating our Heavenly Mother's birthday this Friday?
All of my creative juices seem to have stifled of late, and I am in need of some fresh ideas. What else can we do beside bake a birthday cake in her honour? What about games, crafts, activities? Please DO tell what your family does for this most lovely feast day!

My grandmother shares Mary's birthday as well. She will be 90 this year! We will be celebrating with her on Saturday. We will be attending mass on Friday, but I am still trying to put together the rest of our celebration.

I was just looking at the Birth of Mary thread last night while working on planning a Marian unit study for my preschooler!
Here is what I'm thinking of doing:
Bake a cake, decorate it w/ a Rosary made of icing.
Make birthday cards for Mary w/ my 7yod and 4yod--they color a picture of Mary for the front or glue on a holy card, then narrate a birthday message to Mary, which I will write or type on the card. (my dh wants me to be sure that I tell you that this was HIS idea!)
Consecrate our family to Mary with the prayer in A Year With God.
As part of our Marian unit study, my preschooler will make a Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary section for her notebook. I will read out loud to her from Mary the Mother of Jesus, then she will narrate each mystery and I will type it. She will then glue a picture of the mystery on a notebook page along w/ her narration.
I also have the game Mary Memory which we will play. You could make something similar w/ different holy cards of Mary, though.
I'm also planning to make a Marian shrine for a little altar in our school room. My 4yod will decorate the inside of a shoebox, then place a little statue of Mary inside.
We'll also talk about the Seven Sorrows of Mary--there is an activity in A Year With God we will do with that.
All that should cover 3 days a week for 2-3 weeks with my preschooler.

Time for a brief confession...
We are ending our sixth week of school this week. "School" is going great but our little atrium space has been sadly neglected since "school" began. I believe there are dust bunnies residing underneath.
I can't think of a better day to do a cleaning of our altar, decorating, and floral presentation to Mary than on her b-day.
It'll set the tone nicely for the time leading up to Advent.

Great idea, Cay! I'm trying to form our little atrium space, but you're getting the gears turning to try and speed it up for this day, or at least in part. The birthday celebration really hits home for the little ones. And ds' bday is in a few weeks, so it's really on his mind.
I also thought I would add a book that would do nicely for this feast day. It's OOP, but quite a few copies availabe at Amazon, Young Mary of Nazareth by Marianna Mayer. This book is perfect because it depicts Ann and Joachim and then Mary as a baby and child.
I have two other titles by Mayer and just love them. I got hooked when MacBeth suggested her "Real Santa Claus". I'm still searching for that elusive Twelve Apostles that you suggested in Catholic Mosaic. Consider me if anyone finds a duplicate -- I will pay!

Dawn, these are just lovely plans! Mary, the Mother of Jesus is one title I haven't gotten for our Tomie De Paola and the next one I was going to purchase, otherwise I'd be doing your study right along with you! Thanks for sharing it!

Thanks Cay!
I've been meaning to clear off our shelves to make our *Domestic Church Altar* again. I can't think of a better day to do that in honor of our Blessed Mother.
We'll put a special statue of her there, and maybe I'll have Sarah make a special birthday card for her to put on it.
I think our *Devotion/Religion* time tomorrow morning (the way we're beginning every school day) will feature our Blessed Mother.
Maybe Sarah and I will make a special birthday cake for her, we'll see.
But I KNOW that Sam-Wise Frodo (a.k.a. Sammy the beagle) will just LOVE singing Happy Birthday to Mary tomorrow morning!
