a friend of mine gave me a baptismal cup and book of ideas that i would like to use on feast/baptismal days. i would like to do something special on these days and am looking ideas. do you have something special you do for feast/baptism days?

Some friends of ours always have the Godparents over for dinner on the Baptismal Day of each child. This works well if Godparents live close by.
Lighting the Baptismal candle and saying a prayer over the child on the Baptismal Day is also common.

Renewal of baptismal vows on the anniversary of baptism carries a plenary indulgence. We try to do this with our dc on the anniversary of the baptism with the lit baptismal candle (which the child then gets to blow out - very important to our dc) and meal followed by some special treat (cake or otherwise depending on the energy and dietary requirements of the family - we started out always having cake but then it seems like we were having cake all the time!) The renewal of vows is included in the baptismal candle box - but I'm sure you could get one elsewhere too. If the dc are too young, we renew for them. If they are old enough, they do the responses for themselves. We've always talked about having godparents over but never actually coordinated that as the day usually falls in ball season or weekday, etc.

We usually have a Mass offered for our children on the day, and the children feel so happy and delighted to hear Father announce on that day, at the beginning of Mass, that it is being offered for them! People come up to them after Mass and congratulate them, I think it enforces that not just Mum and Dad think of these special days!
We have been blessed in having all our children baptised on beautiful feasts, especially since we have them baptised very quickly never leaving much time for a lot of choice. Jack - Dec 8 Immaculate Conception, Grace - Divine Mercy Sunday (moveable feast so we acknowledge 6th April & DMS for her), Angela - All Saints Day, Joseph - Our Lady's Birthday, Michael - Our Lady of Guadalupe.
We try to do this especially - in fact we were 'chomping' at the bit for Michael's birth (they all come late) he was born on the eve of The Immaculate Conception on the 150th anniversary year and his baptism we actually booked 'tentively' for the 12th and Father had a chuckle about it. "What, your booking the bapstim and you haven't had the baby yet?  "
With Angela we had a lovely Baptismal party for her, two years ago, I think - an All Saints Party where all the children came dressed up as their favourite saint and we had lots of lovely all saints games - she dressed as her much-loved friend, St Therese of the Little Flower, it was a beautiful, wonderful day, I would love to do more of that in the future.
I should/would like to do more as far as other activities, family traditions/celebrations in the home for these days and so I will await what others have to share with interest.
When it comes to being a godparent, (I have two Goddaughters 10 year old & 17 year old) I have just started this year (after a few years of not getting around to following through on the idea) of giving a gift of a living Catholic book. I this first year it was, "The Princess & the Kiss" for the younger and "St Joan of Arc" from Vision books for the older girl. So that they are receiving something tangible from me as well, and helps me support them in their faith as much as I am possibly able as I am not able to see them regularly (this is aside from prayers).

For name days, we have cake for the name-day child. On baptismal anniversaries, we have cake, the re-lighting of the baptismal candle, and at least one gift.
It has been a hope of mine to shift the "birthday present" focus from the day of the child's physical birth into the world to the day of his spiritual rebirth through the Sacrament of Baptism. This hasn't happened yet; but, again, we do give at least one gift on baptismal anniversaries, usually of a fun, but spiritual, nature.

P.S. We also give a gift annually to my husband's goddaughters on the occasion of their baptismal anniversaries.

thank you for the wonderful ideas! i need to sit down and plan a bit - my son just reminded me that his feast day was thursday last week and i missed it in our new baby sleep-deprived haze.
