Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This morning I woke up thinking about this topic. I'm wondering what has worked best for you in preparing your children for their First Penance and First Communion. The resources I already have are: CHC's 2nd grade lesson plans, A Year With God, Faith and Life 2, and Moira's album for 3-6 year olds. I've looked at the notebook threads, but they seem a bit overwhelming. The Catholic Mosaic book looks so very tempting to buy, do you think it would be a good resource for this year or would I be giving myself an overload of choices?

cheryl,
I know they seem overwhelming, but if you start early and just look at a page a time, the notebooks are very do-able. Honestly, if I had to pick one thing in my entire 14 year and twelve grades of home education experience that would bear the title "Most Worthwhile" it would be the First Communion notebooks.

Cheryl,
The CM book is user-friendly with any curriculum. It takes 15 minutes of your time. I made CM specifically not to overload the parent. (If it does, I truly hope someone will let me know).

The thing about Mosaic is it can be used throughout the whole liturgical year, for all the sacraments, all the saint feast days (well most of them anyway , there are so many afterall ), and all the church celebrations, etc...not only for First Communion.

Hi Cheryl, this has been on my mind too. My middle ds (7 in August) will make his FHC next May. I have all the same resources as you, except I don't have Faith & Life and I do have Catholic Mosaic.

Are you planning to have your son do CCD or will you prepare solely at home?

I am preparing my dd 6 for First Holy Communion next year. I thought I would share what I am doing. I also have all the same resources as you have plus Moira's 6-9 album and Baltimore Catechism.

I decided I wanted to do the notebook with dd, and I shared all the information with 3 other moms in my group that also have First Communicants for next year. They were all very excited about the notebook as well, I knew they would be We have all gone out and bought a notebook and papaer and stickers. We will get together once a month and discuss what we can accomplish for the next month. We are taking each topic and discussing how we can present it to our kids and how we can put it in the notebook. We are pooling all of our suggestions and then will be utilizing what we think will work best for our family. In fact, we have already had one meeting and have started our notebooks.

One of the moms will do the presentations in Moira's album, but one of the moms doesn't know if she will be able to participate in that or not.

My dd is very excited about her notebook. She asks every day if we can work on her First Communion notebook. This is going to be a good preparation for her.

God Bless
